The Bible speaks of God creating spiritual beings before He created man. Called angels, they sang for joy at man’s creation. (Job 38:7) However, Lucifer and a group of angels rebelled against and became enemies of God.
Since that time, Satan and the fallen angels have created havoc for man. They intervened into man’s affairs and as a result, the first world became so evil, God destroyed it with a flood. (Gen. 6:2-7) Since that time, God has restrained the evil angels or demons putting them under chains of darkness. — 2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 1:6
Still powerful and wily, Satan and his angelic allies seek to deceive and ensnare fallen man. "Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” — 1 Pet. 5:8
God promises that He will bring this rebellion to an end. First, He will bind Satan for a thousand years during Christ’s kingdom so all mankind can be taught righteousness and not be deceived. (Rev. 20:2-3) Then, after Satan is loosed for a little season to test man’s obedience to God’s righteous laws, Satan and all his followers will be destroyed forever in the lake of fire, the second death. — Rev. 20:7-10
