What is death? Why do people die?
Will death ever come to an end?
What hope does man have after he dies?
The FREE 52-page booklet "Hope Beyond the Grave" presents the Bible’s answer to these questions.
Man’s greatest enemy is death. No one escapes its clutches. God did not create man die. However, because Adam transgressed God’s commandment, Adam, Eve and all of their descendants were sentenced to death. (Gen. 2:16-17; Gen. 3:17-19) The human family has been dying ever since.
To rescue the human family from this curse, God sent His only begotten son to take Adam’s place under the penalty. “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, … that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.” — Heb. 2:9
Death is the cessation of life. “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing … for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” — Eccel. 9:5,10
Man’s hope is that he will be raised from the dead in Christ’s kingdom. “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his [Christ’s] voice, And shall come forth.” (John 5:28-29) “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.” — Rev. 20:13
In Christ’s kingdom, men will be taught righteousness. (Isa. 26:9) God’s spirit and His law will be written in the hearts of man. (Jer. 31:33-34; Ezek. 36:26-27) Those who become obedient will regain all that Adam lost—physical perfection, everlasting life and harmony with God.
